Alaska State House Fairbanks District 9
Scott's parents, Koji and Virginia, moved to Fairbanks during college. After receiving their degrees, they taught internationally and then returned to Fairbanks to raise a family in 1980. Scott and his family have lived here continuously for 28 years.
Scott attended Joy Elementary, University Park Elementary, Tanana Junior High and Lathrop High School before going to college at UAF. Scott worked at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital Emergency Room and graduated with a degree in biomedicine. It was during college that he found his calling in public service and government.
In 1999, right out of college, Scott ran for a seat on the Fairbanks City Council. At 23, he was the youngest member elected since organization and brought a new perspective to the Council. He advanced measures dealing with landscaping and beautification, budget restraint, cost recovery from criminals and economic development zones. During his six years on the City Council, the budget was lean and grew slower than inflation.
In 2006, Scott was elected to the Alaska State House to represent District 9 after he unseated a two-term incumbent Republican. He currently serves on the House Resources Committee, the House Oil and Gas Committee and the House Military and Veteran Affairs Committee. As a freshman, he worked on the important gasline legislation and helped to pass the oil tax reform bill in a special session. He has also been successful bringing back money to help with roads, public safety and schools.
When Scott returns to Fairbanks, he works at the FMH Emergency Room where he has worked as a Senior Patient Representative for more than eight years. Scott has been active in the Fairbanks community through a variety of activities including the Volunteers in Policing, Fairbanks Symphony Board, and the Fairbanks Golden Heart Rotary Club. Scott also spends time with his sister, Sonja and his mother who live in the same neighborhood.
